Utah Grizzlies News Release

West Valley City, Utah - Solid defense and two goals, one early and one late, helped the Idaho Steelheads shutout the Utah Grizzlies, 2-0, Friday night at the E-Center. The game marks the first time Utah has been shutout on home ice in the ECHL. In the first period, it was the Steelheads who struck first when Paul Caponigri fired a one-timer over a diving Alfie Michaud. The Grizzlies were unable to convert on two early power-play opportunities as Idaho went into the first intermission with a 1-0 lead.

After a combined 17 shots on goal and three power-play opportunities, neither team was able to get on the board in the second period. Utah had five scoring chances in the frame and missed a few wide-open nets.

Alfie Michaud stopped 27 of 28 Steelheads shots in the tough luck loss. Dan Hacker added an Idaho empty-netter with 11 seconds left to seal the Idaho win.

The Grizzlies return to the E-Center ice on Wednesday, March 22, when they take on the Alaska Aces. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m.
