March 17, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release
Wheeling, W V- After their active day on this past Wednesday's trade deadline, the Bombers headed to Wheeling to take on the Nailers for the tenth time this season, hoping the new pieces to the puzzle would come together.
Dominic Soucy, one of the newest members to the team had an opportunity early on to get the Bombers off and running, but once again Nailers starter Andy Franck was there to make the save. The Nailers were able to feed off of the strong play of Franck and Tim Verbeek would give Wheeling the 1-0 lead at the 4:49 mark of the first. Then later in the first Jordan Cameron, was rewarded for driving to the net and finished a give and go with Sean Collins to make it 2-0 Wheeling and that is how it stayed throughout the rest of the first, allowing the Nailers to take the two goal lead into the dressing room.
The Bombers were out shot by the Nailers 15-2 in that first period, so obviously they had to find a way to get the offense going to try to come back and tie it up and that's exactly what they did for the majority of the second period. Seeing the Bombers increase their level of play, the Nailers also stepped it up, but thanks to David Currie making brilliant save after brilliant save, he was able to keep the Bombers deficit to two.
Despite the brilliance of Currie, the Bombers some how found themselves down 3-0 after yielding only their fourth short-handed goal of the season to the Nailers Bo Cheesman at the 4:06 mark of the second. With plenty of chances on the power play the Bombers tried and tried to cut into the lead, but Franck continued to do his part in net and Wheeling took a 3-0 lead to the locker room after forty.
The Nailers had the luck of the Irish on their side all night as they tacked on 4 third period goals and out shot the Bombers 45-17 en route to the 7-0 victory
The Bombers continue their 15th Anniversary Season at home Saturday night at the E.J. Nutter Center as the Trenton Titans come into town.
