Augusta Lynx News Release

In a kitchen sink game that featured everything including a penalty shot in overtime, the Florida Everblades managed to defeat the Augusta Lynx 2-1 in a six round shootout on Friday night at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center.

Nicolas Corbeil got the Lynx (26-29-6) on the scoreboard first with a power play marker from Chris Leinweber and Brian Passmore at 4:03 of the opening frame. Corbeil swooped in from the point and put home a rebound off Leinweber's feed to the front of the net to put Augusta ahead 1-0.

A scoreless second period gave way to Ryan Brindley's game-tying goal at 10:05 of the third period, as Brindley cut down into the low slot and took a pas in front from Steve Saviano, depositing the puck over the right shoulder of Nathan Marsters and send the game to overtime.

In the OT, Corbeil would pull down Daniel Sisca while on a breakaway, resulting in a penalty shot for Florida. Sisca tried to deke to the stick side on Marsters, but the Lynx goaltender flashed the right pad and turned aside the attempt to keep the game scoreless with 2:55 remaining in the extra session.

Florida (39-19-3) would finally prevail in round six of the shootout, with Corey Neilson scoring coupled with an Anthony Battaglia miss to snag the victory for the Everblades.

Marsters turned aside 28 shots through overtime for the win and three of six in the shootout, while Kevin Nastiuk stopped 33 shots and four of six shooters for the victory.

The same two teams will battle tomorrow night at 7:35 pm, with the Classic Stucco and Stone Pre-Game Show starting one half-hour before game time on your Home for Lynx Hockey, NEWSTALKSPORTS 1630.
