OVERVIEW: The Blaze fueled the expansion fire last weekend with their first win in franchise history at the Delta Center, overwhelming the visiting Nashville Kats, 63-34. The Blaze forced a team-record seven turnovers and had four rushing touchdowns. Utah looks to take its first-place scoring offense and winning road record (2-1) into Grand Rapids and keep pace with the three-way tie (Las Vegas and Arizona) for first place in the Western Division. The Rampage return home and look to snap a three-game losing streak on the road after losing to Las Vegas, 66-41, last weekend and will face another Western Conference foe. Grand Rapids owns a winning home record (2-1) while both wins came against Western Conference opponents, Los Angeles and San Jose.
THE SERIES: This will mark the first meeting between the two teams. Blaze head coach DANNY WHITE is 3-1 against the Rampage in his head coaching career including 3-0 on the road and this will mark the first meeting against McEwen.
WHAT'S AHEAD: After the short week to prepare for the Rampage, the Blaze will play three of their next four games against divisional opponents at the Delta Center. The only road game will come on April 1, when Utah will travel across the country to take on Tampa Bay. The home games against Las Vegas (March 24), Arizona (April 7) and Los Angeles (April 15) will be crucial for the Blaze to break ahead of the current three-way divisional tie.

Burley, who had 117 receptions for 1,542 yards and a league-leading 45 touchdowns in 2005, figures to be a threat to re-write the books... The expansion records Burley will be chasing are held by former Detroit Fury OS ROBERT GORDON who tallied 125 receptions for 1,630 yards and 42 touchdowns in 2001... Burley currently leads the league with 65 catches, 892 yards, and is in second place with 22 touchdowns for 132 points... Burley is currently attempting to break all major AFL single-season receiving records and is on pace for 148 receptions (MARCUS NASH, Las Vegas, 2004 holds the record at 154), 2,038 yards (CALVIN SCHEXNAYDER, Arizona, 1998 holds the AFL record at 1,982 yards) and 50 touchdowns (five players are currently tied with 46)... LAST WEEK:
DEFENSE FUELS BLAZE BLOWOUT, 63-34
Seven Turnovers, Game Plan Keys First Home Win
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze (3-4) finally broke through and posted a home victory when they handed the Nashville Kats (4-3) a 63-34 loss at the Delta Center on Friday night in front of 14,052 fans to remain in first place in the Western Division.
"This was a great shot in the arm for us," said head coach/general manager DANNY WHITE. "We beat a good team tonight, and to beat them in that fashion is a real confidence builder for us. It was the complete game we have been looking for all year."
The Blaze came into the game with one of the best offenses in the league, but used a unique blend of rushing, screen passes and quick slants to keep the Nashville defense on their heels.
Offensive Player of the Game, FB/LB CHRIS ROBINSON, led the team with six carries for 19 yards and two touchdowns. Ironman of the Game WR/DB ORSHAWANTE BRYANT led the receiving corps with three catches for 58 yards, a touchdown pass off a screen and an interception off the wall. ADT Defensive Player of the Game OL/DL BRYAN HENDERSON finished with a sack, a tackle for a loss, a forced fumble and a recovered fumble.
In fact, two of the teams five receiving touchdowns came from offensive linemen as OL/DL JOHN CULP recorded his first receiving touchdown in a Blaze uniform, while Henderson added the other.
The Blaze game out hot as FB/LB KEVIN CLEMENS started the scoring with two one-yard plunges before the Kats first snap. Clemens scored on Utah's first possession and the ensuing kickoff bounced off the goal post into the WR/LB TOM PACE's hands and scored again for a quick 14-0 lead they would never relinquish.
AFL Offensive Player of the Month for February SIAHA BURLEY was held to just four catches for 40 yards and only one touchdown.
"If they want to lose and stop me from scoring, I will take it every time," Burley said. "I can't sleep when we lose. I had six touchdowns against New York and I couldn't sleep because we lost."
Utah QB JOE GERMAINE finished 14-of-20 passing for 160 yards with two touchdowns before being relieved by JASON GESSER, who finished 4-of-7 passing for 32 yards and two touchdowns.
THE IFS...:
If Utah defeats Grand Rapids it would...
*Maintain Utah's road winning record (3-1)
*Give Utah a perfect record against Central Division opponents (2-0).
*Give Utah a 4-4 (.500) all-time regular-season record.
*Maintain Utah's tie for the Western Division lead and possibly the division lead if Arizona and Las Vegas lose.
THE COACHES:
Utah - Danny White, 14th season
124-59 (.678) reg. season; 144-69 (.676) overall
3-1 career vs. Grand Rapids
White is currently in his 14th season as an AFL head coach and first with the Blaze. White has compiled a record of 142-68 and advanced to the AFL Playoffs in 12 of the previous 13 years (hasn't missed the postseason since 1992). Prior to joining the Blaze, White was the head coach of the Arizona Rattlers for 13 seasons (1992-2004). The AFL Hall of Fame coach has two titles (1994 and 1997) to his credit and has made five ArenaBowl appearances (1994, 97, 2002-04). During his last season in Arizona in 2004, White compiled a 13-6 record and made his third straight ArenaBowl appearance. White, won AFL "Coach of the Year" award in 1993. White officially became the head coach of the Blaze on April 21, 2005. He played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys (1976-88) and helped lead the Cowboys to the postseason five times and won three NFC East titles during his tenure as starting QB. In his first year as a starter (1980), White set the club single-season record for touchdown passes (28) and then broke the record (29) in 1983. Those records still stand as the top two single-season marks in franchise history. He still owns eight Cowboy records and is the member of FOUR Halls of Fame (Arizona Sports, Arizona State, College Football and Arena Football).
Grand Rapids - Sparky McEwen, 2nd season
6-17 (.353) reg. season, 6-17 overall (.353)
0-0 career vs. Utah
2006 marks McEwen's second season as Rampage Head Coach & Director of Football Operations. During his first season, he was tasked with rebuilding a team that was statistically one of the worst in AFL history the year before. In light of that fact, his 4-12 record for the 2005 season is not a true measure of the accomplishments that McEwen is capable of as a professional head coach. The 2005 Rampage improved dramatically in nearly every offensive category and set some AFL records in the process. After a bumpy 1-11 start, McEwen won three of his last four games, including wins over the top three American Conference seeded teams in the playoffs (Colorado, Los Angeles and Chicago); Colorado would go on to become the ArenaBowl champions that year.
Under McEwen's guidance, the Rampage were the most improved team in the AFL, averaging 11.3 more points and 45.7 more offensive yards per game than the previous year. The team also set team single-game records for most total yards (420 vs. Austin) and most rushing yards (122 at Colorado), while shattering team single-season marks for rushing attempts (164), rushing yards (766), average yards per rush (4.7) and rushing touchdowns (35).
Grand Rapids also set a new AFL record for the most rushing yards in a single season (766) and average yards per rush (4.7) thanks to the strong running of Michael Bishop and Chris Avery. With that accomplishment, Avery and Bishop became just the third set of teammates to finish first and second in rushing yards in league history. The previous season, Bishop ran just eight times for 51 yards in five games. In his first start under McEwen, the former Heisman Trophy runner-up became the first player in league history to run for 100 yards in a single game. In the season finale, Bishop would set another AFL record for the most rushing yards in a single season (459). Bishop became the first Rampage player in team history to be named AFL Offensive Player of the Week when he contributed to the defeat of the eventual ArenaBowl champion Colorado Crush by tossing 80.7% of his passes for 310 yards and five scores to go along with 32 rushing yards and two more TDs on the ground.

It marked the first time in Blaze history that a player had scored more than once on the ground and both feats were accomplished in a single quarter. UTAH'S BURLEY EARNS AFL MONTHLY HONORS
Offensive Specialist Takes Offensive Player of the Month

Through six games, Burley led the AFL in scoring (126), touchdowns (21), all-purpose yards (1,113), receptions (61) and receiving yards (852). Utah is 3-4 and leads the Western Division.
"This is a tremendous honor," Burley said. "This is an award that wasn't earned alone. My teammates and coaches were all a part of this and hopefully we will continue to play together toward the common goal of winning an ArenaBowl title."
HEY COACH! Blaze head coach DANNY WHITE is currently in four Halls of Fame (Arizona Sports, Arizona State University, College Football and Arena Football). He has 13 years of experience in the AFL and owns two ArenaBowl titles (1994 and 1997), while not having a losing season since 1992. But, did you know that the assistant coaching staff has a combined total of 33 years of Arena Football experience?
Offensive/Defensive Line coach, FLINT FLEMING, played in six ArenaBowls and has three titles (1990, 1992 and 1997) during his 16 years in Arena Football. He was also named to the AFL's 15th Anniversary Team. Offensive coordinator and future AFL Hall of Famer, HUNKIE COOPER, is the AFL's all-time all-purpose yards leader (20,587), two-time Ironman of the Year (1999-2000) and AFL MVP (1993) during his 13 years in the AFL. Assistant Offensive/Defensive Line coach, LINDSAY HASSELL, played four years with the Oklahoma Wranglers (2000-01) and Arizona Rattlers (2002-03).
Despite being in his first season of coaching Arena Football, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator, LEE LESLIE, brings 21 years of coaching experience, including 14 championship titles and a year of coaching in the NIFL (Utah Warriors).
CLIMBING THE CHARTS - Head coach DANNY WHITE picks up where he left off after a year absence from the AFL coaching ranks. The AFL Hall of Fame coach is currently No. 2 on the league's all-time coaches win list. Below is a list of the all-time winningest coaches:
