In the end, nothing James Roe did - and he did just about everything - seemed to matter Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Avengers. Ultimately, the Avengers' 75-61 victory over the SaberCats was yet another setback in a season full of them for San Jose, who fell to 2-5 on the season.
But you can't pin this one on Roe, whose Herculean effort in the losing cause included 12 receptions, 156 yards, four touchdowns and two tackles on defense.
For his performance, Roe has been honored as the Beckett.com AFL Collectible Player of the Week for Week 7. Roe scored a touchdown in each quarter against Los Angeles, the longest a 30-yarder just before halftime that brought San Jose to within two, 30-28.
San Jose's leading receiver enters Week 8 with 40 receptions for 516 yards and 13 touchdowns, a stunning statistical line considering he's played in just five games so far this season.
