
AFL names Players of the Week
March 14, 2006 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release
NEW YORK - Arizona Rattlers WR/DB RANDY GATEWOOD, Dallas Desperados QB CLINT DOLEZEL and Las Vegas Gladiators WR/DB ANTHONY ARCENEAUX have been named Ironman, Offensive Player and ADT Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, for Week 7 of the 2006 season.
IRONMAN: Gatewood (6-0, 185, UNLV), who is in his 11th AFL season, earns the Ironman honor for the second consecutive week. In Week 7 action he posted 8.0 total tackles, 1.0 tackles-for-loss and one pass break-up in Arizona's win over Orlando. He added four receptions for 50 yards and a key fourth-quarter touchdown on offense. Gatewood also recovered an onsides kick with 29 seconds left to seal the 60-57 victory for the Rattlers.
OFFENSIVE: Dolezel (6-5, 205, East Texas State), who is in his 11th AFL season, completed 23-of-33 passes for 338 yards with eight touchdowns and one interception in Dallas' 64-35 win at Tampa Bay on Sunday. He also became just the third player in AFL history to throw for 700 touchdowns joining New York's Aaron Garcia and Kansas City's Andy Kelly in the elite club. Dolezel reached the milestone in 125 games, the fastest of the three players.
ADT DEFENSIVE: Arceneaux (5-9, 185, Utah), a rookie, registered 4.0 total tackles, one forced fumble, one interception and one pass break-up in the Gladiators' 66-41 win over Grand Rapids on Friday night. In a key play, he jarred the ball loose from Rampage OS Anthony Hines allowing WR/LB JOE DOUGLAS to scamper in for a 16-yard third quarter touchdown.
Ironman of the Week candidates included: Austin's Kevin Nickerson, Colorado' s Ahmad Hawkins, Dallas' Duke Pettijohn, Georgia's Jamin Elliot, Los Angeles ' Kevin Ingram, Philadelphia's Sean Scott and Utah's Orshawante Bryant.
Offensive Player of the Week candidates included: Colorado's John Dutton, Georgia's Chris Jackson and Matt Nagy, Las Vegas' Jason Fife, Los Angeles' Sonny Cumbie and Tony Locke and New York's Nick Browder.
ADT Defensive Player of the Week candidates included: Colorado's Rashad Floyd, Dallas' Colston Weatherington, Georgia's Adam Metts, Philadelphia's Eddie Moten and Utah's Bryan Henderson.
