Soul get back on winning track, cruise to 54-24 victory over Kansas City

KANSAS CITY - The Philadelphia Soul (4-3) scored a franchise best 48 first half points en route to their largest margin of victory of the 2006 season, 54-24 over the Kansas City Brigade (1-6). The win snapped a two game losing streak and gave the Soul the first road victory of the season. The 24 points allowed was the lowest in franchise history

The Soul got off to a fast start scoring the game's first 27 points. Philadelphia scored through the air, on the ground and on defense during the run. Soul quarterback Tony Graziani led the attack throwing a touchdowns to both wide/receiver Sean Scott and offensive specialist J.J. McKelvey.

After a Brigade touchdown, Philadelphia rattled off 21 straight points and led 48-6 with two seconds remaining in the half. Kansas City scored the final six points of the half when quarterback Andy Kelly hit Steve Smith on an "Hail Mary" pass off the right side of the rebound net.

Philadelphia's defense was spectacular in the first half, recording two interceptions, three sacks and four turnover on downs.

With the game in hand, the Soul used their ground game to control the clock for much of the second half. Philadelphia had the ball for over 18 minutes during the half. The two teams only scored a combined 12 points in the half until Kansas City scored a touchdown on the game's final play.

Graziani, who was named Offensive Player of the Game, complete a season best 19-of-23 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver/defensive back Mike Brown led all receivers with seven catches for 71 yards while Scott had a solid all around game with two catches for 37 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned an interception for a touchdown and tallied a pass break up. McKelvey, playing in first game as the team's offensive specialist, recorded five catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Defensive Player of the Game Eddie Moten had his best game in a Soul uniform recording two interception including one returned for a touchdown and 3.5 tackles.

Former Soul offensive specialist Steve Smith led the Brigade with six catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns. Brigade quarterback Andy Kelly struggled all night long throwing a season high four interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns. He completed 16-of-32 passes for 212 yards and two touchdowns.

The Soul face division rival Columbus Destroyers this Saturday, March 19 for their third road game in as many weeks. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Comcast SportsNet (Tape Delayed at 10:30 p.m.). The Soul return to the Wachovia Center on Friday, March 31 when they host the Austin Wranglers.
