Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

MYRTLE BEACH S.C. - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans are proud to announce that the USA Baseball National team will return to Coastal Federal Field for a 4th straight year. On back-to-back nights, July 6th & 7th, the National team will take on Chinese Taipei as part of the "Road To The World Championships Tour." Tickets are on sale now at the Pelicans box office.

"This marks our fourth summer in Myrtle Beach and we always appreciate the opportunity to bring the USA Baseball National Team back to the area," said USA Baseball's Executive Director Paul Seiler. "The atmosphere at Coastal Federal Field is one of the most exciting the team will experience this summer and the entire community continues to make the players feel welcome."

The nation's top collegiate talent will be on display in Myrtle Beach when the USA Baseball National team comes to town.

"Over the past four years, some of the game's top young talent has passed through Myrtle Beach while playing for the USA Baseball National Team," said Seiler. "The 2003 and 2004 teams featured a combined 19 First Round Draft Picks including the reigning American League Rookie of the Year Huston Street (Oakland Athletics) and one of the Atlanta Braves top young players (and former Myrtle Beach Pelican) Joey Devine."

Each summer the team plays a schedule of exhibition games across America and overseas against different countries. Over the last three years the National team has posted a perfect record against competition in their exhibition games at Coastal Federal Field. Last year the U.S. swept a three-game series against Nicaragua in Myrtle Beach.

Something new for this year's USA Baseball appearance in Myrtle Beach is the addition of a Meet and Greet for autographs and photos with Olympic gold medalists, Jennifer McFalls and Lori Harrigan.

Jennifer McFalls was a member of the Gold Medal Winning 2000 United States Olympic Softball Team with Harrigan. McFalls scored the winning run versus Australia in a 1-0 victory that put Team USA into the Gold Medal Game. She was also an alternate on the 1996 United States Olympic Softball Team. McFalls was an All-American at Texas A&M where she holds seven career marks including batting average (.379) and hits (279).

Lori Harrigan is a three-time Olympic Gold Medalist having captured gold in Athens ('04), Sydney ('00), and Atlanta ('96). At the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, in a pool play victory over Canada, she became the first person ever to pitch a solo Olympic softball no-hitter. Prior to Sydney, she paced Team USA with a 12-0 record and a .90 ERA on the team's pre-Olympic Tour. Her international softball resume also includes a perfect game against the Bahamas in the 2003 Pan American Games.

Fans can purchase tickets to the USA Baseball games now by calling the Pelicans box office at 843-918-6000, or online at myrtlebeachpelicans.com.

On Tuesday night the Pelicans take on the Potomac Nationals in game three of a four-game series at 6:35 pm.
