Urquhart Named Oakley/CHL Player Of The Week

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Ariz. - The Arizona Sundogs, in conjunction with the Central Hockey League, today announced that forward Cory Urquhart has been named the Oakley/CHL Player of the Week for the period ending March 16. Urquhart wins the award just one week after linemate Alex Leavitt received the weekly honor.

In three contests this past week, Urquhart recorded multiple points in each game totaling nine points (6g/3a) and a plus-3 rating, including a four-goal performance on Friday, March 14 in a 7-2 win over the Amarillo Gorillas. The Halifax, Nova Scotia, native's strong play has given the Sundogs a six-point cushion over second place New Mexico and moved the Arizona club to within one point of clinching the Southwest Division title.

The former second round (40th overall) NHL draft pick has tallied 25 points (14g/11a) in just 12 games since being assigned to Arizona by the Phoenix Coyotes on Feb. 20. He currently owns a six-game point streak and has gather nine multiple point outings in 12 games this season. He became the first player in Sundogs franchise history and just the fourth player in the CHL this season to record four goals in a game.

Arizona is currently riding a five-game win streak and will take on the New Mexico Scorpions on Tuesday at the Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Game time is set for 6:15pm (Arizona time) but will be tape-delayed on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs. The Sundogs need just one point in their remaining four games to clinch their first-ever division title.
