March 17, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

The Central Hockey League announced today that the recipients for the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for the period ending March 16th, 2008 are forward Cory Urquhart of the Arizona Sundogs and goaltender Miguel Beaudry of the Austin Ice Bats.

Urquhart was assigned by the Phoenix Coyotes, the Sundogs NHL affiliate, on February 20th and has made an immediate impact recording points in 10 of the 12 games he has played and notching multiple-point games in nine contests. Last week, he scored six goals and had three assists in the Sundogs three games (all victories). On the season, the Halifax, Nova Scotia native has 14 goals and 11 assists and is a +6. Urquhart is a former second round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2003 NHL Draft. In his career, he has played in 54 AHL games scoring 10 goals with 17 assists. The 23-year-old was a member of the Hamilton Bulldogs Calder Cup winning team last season dressing in 18 playoff games (2-2=4).

Beaudry wins the award for the fourth time this season after having a remarkable week that has put the Ice Bats on the brink of making the playoffs for the first time since the 2002-03 season (lost in the finals to Memphis). The Verner, Ontario native went 4-0 allowing just six goals, never more than two in a game. He stopped 109 shots on the week for a save percentage of .948. On the season, Beaudry is 21-18-1 with a 2.72 goals against average and a .918 save percentage. He has gone 16-5-1 with two shutouts in 2008 and has the Ice Bats just one point away from clinching a CHL Ray Miron President's Cup playoff berth.

In recognition of their achievements, both Urquhart and Beaudry will receive a special gift from Oakley.
