Take 2-of-3 from Bucks

The Hounds were able to maintain a top five position for the playoffs as they took two-of-three games from the Laredo Bucks over the weekend. The Hounds have not clinched a playoff spot. Friday night Youngstown trailed 2-1 after the first period but goals from Steve Birnstill and Petr Pohl propelled them to a 3-2 victory. Saturday night Youngstown won 3-1 thanks to goals from Joel Irving, Mark Odut and Jason Baird. Sunday afternoon saw the two teams combine for 180 penalty minutes and six game-misconduct penalties as Laredo took the game 3-1. Youngstown finishes the regular season series with the Bucks 3-1-0.

What's on Tap: Eagles Fly in to Finish the Regular Season

Believe it or not we are down to the final three games of the regular season with the defending President's Cup Champion Colorado Eagles coming to town. The Eagles (37-18-6, 80 points) are two points away from clinching their fifth consecutive Northwest Division title. These two teams have played twice this season in Colorado with the Eagles taking both games 7-3 and 4-3 in a shootout. Youngstown has one regular season victory over the Eagles in their franchise history and that was March 18, 2007 at the Chevrolet Centre. Last season they met in the first round of the playoffs with Colorado taking the series four games to two. The series begins Wednesday night and continues with games on Friday and Saturday night. Face-off is 7:05 for all three games. Fans are encouraged to bring their skates to skate with the Hounds after the game as it will be "Fan Appreciation Night." Tickets are on sale for $8.00 by calling (330) 747-PUCK or by stopping by the Chevrolet Centre box office. All SteelHounds games are available on ESPN Radio 1240 and SteelHounds.com.

History Made with More on the Way

It has once again been a history making season for the Youngstown SteelHounds as their 36 wins is a new franchise record breaking last year's mark of 34. With a win they will set the franchise record for most standings points in a season. Last year's team who qualified for the playoffs for the first time in franchise history set the record at 78 points coming from a 34-20-10 record. The Hounds currently sit at 77 points. Despite Sunday's loss the Hounds tied a franchise record for most consecutive wins at the Chevrolet Centre with five.

That is some Deep Water

Head Coach Kevin Kaminski's number one goal over the off-season was to add depth to his roster. His mission has been accomplished as the Hounds are one of only three teams in the league to have 12 players score at least 20 points this season. Of the 12, three are defenseman with Jeff Alcombrack still on the 30 day injured reserve list and two players are in the American Hockey League with Kirill Starkov and Kevin Jarman playing for the Syracuse Crunch. Arizona and Rocky Mountain are the other two squads to accomplish the feat. The Hounds opponent this week, the Colorado Eagles have 11 players at 20 points or more.

Rally the Hounds to the Playoffs this Thursday

Come meet the SteelHounds and Crusher this Thursday from 4:00-7:00pm at Home Depot (6100 Mahoning Avenue in Austintown). The Hounds will be signing autographs and taking pictures so come on down and help rally the Hounds to the playoffs. For more information crash the net at SteelHounds.com.
