CHL Athletic Trainer, Equipment Manager Of The Year Announced

The Central Hockey League (CHL) announced today the winners of the 2007-08 Athletic Trainer and Equipment Manager of the Year determined by voting among the equipment managers and trainers from the CHL. Oklahoma City's Wade Sundbye has been selected the Athletic Trainer of the Year, while Rocky Mountain's Patrick Stevens earns the honor of being named the Equipment Manager of the Year.

Sundbye is in his 11th season with the Blazers and is one of the most respected trainers in all of hockey. He is employed by the McBride Clinic in Oklahoma City and works as a Staff Athletic Trainer for the clinic in the off-season. He lives in Oklahoma City with his wife Marcella and his four children: Cole, Logan, Drew and Sydney. Laredo's Bobby Moore finished second place in the balloting.

Stevens is in his second season with the Rage and has been alongside Rocky Mountain Head Coach Tracy Egeland for several seasons. Known around hockey as ‘Loaf', he began by assisting with the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs before being the head Equipment Manager for the Lubbock Cotton Kings in 2002. He then followed Egeland from Lubbock to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees where he was the Equipment Manager from 2003 to 2006. This season, Stevens was chosen to serve as the Equipment Manager for the Northern Conference All-Star team in the 2008 CHL All-Star Game. He is married to Brandy and has an infant daughter (Makynzie). Finishing second place in balloting was Arizona's George McNichols.

The All-CHL and All-Rookie teams will be announced on Tuesday with the remaining CHL Awards announced throughout the next week. The CHL Most Valuable Player recipient will be announced Monday, March 24th.
