McCreary Added For Scorps Playoff Run

[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Scorpions head coach Randy Murphy has signed defenseman Bill McCreary for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. McCreary will be in uniform tomorrow night when the Scorpions host the Arizona Sundogs in a key Southwest Division battle.

McCreary, 25, has spent the last two seasons with the Huntsville Havoc in the Southern Professional Hockey League. In 56 professional games the rugged blue liner has scored 31 points (5G, 26A) while amassing 71 penalty minutes.

"Bill will add grit and tenacity to our roster for the playoff run," said Murphy. "He is the kind of player you look to add depth with when you try and win a championship."

Prior to playing at the professional ranks, McCrary enjoyed a stellar career in junior hockey for the Texas Tornado and then in the NCAA at Providence College. In 171 amateur games he scored 143 points (58G, 85A) and colleted 401 penalty minutes.

The name Bill McCreary will be familiar to avid hockey fans. The Scorpions player is the nephew of current NHL referee by the same name. His father Bill McCreary, Jr. and grandfather Bill McCreary, Sr. both played in the NHL.

New Mexico returns home on Tuesday, March 18th to face the Arizona Sundogs. Come see the Scorpions take on their rivals. The Sundogs currently sit three points ahead of the Scorpions for first place in the Southwest Division.

The final regular season home game is Saturday, March 22nd when Amarillo visits the Santa Ana Star Center. It will be "Fan Appreciation Night" with a chance to win $10,000 in cash, airline tickets or a beautiful safe filled with prizes.
