Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Tampa Bay Rays today have sent 7-year Major League veteran B.J. Upton to Montgomery to continue his minor league rehab stint with three games with the Biscuits.
Upton, 27, will play all nine innings Monday and Tuesday as an outfielder before concluding his rehab stint Wednesday as the Biscuits' designated hitter. He's bouncing back from a back injury suffered in an outfield collision with Desmond Jennings during spring training.
Upton was a Biscuit during the inaugural season of 2004. He hit .327 in 29 games for the Biscuits that season before a promotion to Durham, and in August of 2004 became the second former Biscuit to reach the Big Leagues when he debuted with the Rays as a 19-year-old.
In seven years with the Rays, Upton has hit .257 with 90 home runs and 367 RBI.
This will be the second leg of Upton's rehab. He spent four games at high-A Charlotte where he went 1-11 at the plate.
All three games of Upton's rehab stint will begin at 7:05 as the Biscuits continue their season-opening 15-game homestand. Tickets are available by calling the Biscuits at 323-2255, visiting the Riverwalk Stadium box office, or logging on to biscuitsbaseball.com.
