Mississippi Braves News Release

Jackson, TN - Ian Gac's first pitch home run to lead off the top of the 16th inning propelled the Mississippi Braves to a 4-3 win over the Jackson Generals on Sunday night at Pringles Park.

It was the second straight night the Braves (4-7) went to extra innings, as they lost 4-3 to the Montgomery Biscuits in 13 innings on Saturday night.

Gac's homer came off of former Braves infielder Eric Campbell, taking the loss in his professional pitching debut for the Generals (7-4). Utility infielder Barrett Kleinknecht pitched the final two innings scoreless in his minor league pitching debut to get the win.

The Braves scored first in support of starter Luis Avilan, plating two runs on back to back doubles by Phil Gosselin and Gac in the first. They added another in the sixth when Gac doubled again to score Gosselin.

Jackson tied the game in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs on reliever Richard Sullivan on three straight RBI singles by Jesus Sucre, Gabriel Noriega, and Daniel Carroll. The game stayed tied for nine innings before Gac's home run.

Avilan pitched five innings in the start, preserving a no-hitter through 4 1/3 innings, but a Carroll infield hit broke it up with one out in the fifth.

Billy Bullock set a career high with four innings in relief. He came in for the tenth and pitched into the fourteenth, striking out four and allowing just two hits.

The Braves and Generals square off in game two on Monday at 7:05 PM. RHP Zeke Spruill (1-0, 1.64) takes on Generals LHP James Paxton (1-0, 0.87), the #3 prospect in the Mariners' organization according to Baseball America. Listen live on 103.9 FM WYAB, and online at MississippiBraves.com.
