Bats Come Alive As Generals Beat Braves 7-1

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 15, 2012) - The Generals (8-4) pounded out 14 hits Monday night at Pringles Park and defeated the M-Braves (4-8), 7-1. The win evened the series at one game each and ups the Jackson lead in the Southern League North Division to two games.

The Braves opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning, but did not score again.

The Generals started their scoring in the second inning on an RBI single from Mario Yepez. Jackson added three runs in the third inning to a take a 4-1 lead on a 2-RBI double from Rich Poythress and sacrifice fly from Ralph Henriquez.

The Generals pushed the advantage to 6-1 in the fifth inning on a 2-RBI double from Denny Almonte. Jackson put the finishing touches on the win with a mammoth solo homer to right from Joe Dunigan in the seventh inning to make the final, 7-1.

Reliever Moises Hernandez (1-) walked one and struck out three over 2 1/3 shutout innings for the win. Starter James Paxton allowed a run two hits, walking eight and striking out four in 4 2/3 innings and took a no decision. Braves starter Zeke Spruill (1-1) took the loss.

Four Generals recorded multi-hit games Monday. Joe Dunigan was 3-for-4 with a double, home run and two runs scored. Francisco Martinez finished 3-for-4 with two runs. Johermyn Chavez was 2-for-4with a double and two runs. Finally Denny Almonte ended the night 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

The Generals continue their five-game series with the Mississippi Braves at Pringles Park on Tuesday night, with first pitch set for 7:05 CT. RHP Taijuan Walker makes the start for the Generals against LHP Sean Gilmartin for Mississippi.
