
James Paxton Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

JACKSON, TENN. (APRIL 16, 2012) - Generals lefty James Paxton has been named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for his efforts in the first 11 days of the 2012 season. Paxton made two starts and was 1-0, with a 0.87 ERA striking out 17 and walking just one batter in 10 1/3 innings.
The Ladner, British Columbia, Canada native fanned 10 batters in his first start on April 6 against the Barons and struck out seven in his second outing last Thursday against the Smokies.
The 23-year-old lefty is rated as the No. 3 prospect for the Seattle Mariners, according to Baseball America. He was drafted by Seattle in the fourth round of the 2010 draft out of the University of Kentucky.
Paxton was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week last season for his work during the week of August 8. He was also a member of the World squad during the 2011 Futures Game.
Paxton will make his third start of the season tonight for the Generals at 7:05 p.m. against the Mississippi Braves at Pringles Park.
