Ian Gac Named Southern League Hitter of the Week

Pearl, MS - On Monday, Ian Gac was named the Southern League Hitter of the Week from April 5th - April 15th. Gac is the first Mississippi Braves' player to be honored with the title for the 2012 season.

Gac was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 26th round of the 2003 MLB June Amateur Draft and spent 7 years with the organization. Afterwards, he was acquired by the Chicago White Sox organization for two years before signing with the Braves on November 17, 2011.

Since Opening Day, Gac has belted 16 hits in 43 at bats and has hit five doubles, one triple, two home runs, and has acquired nine RBIs. His first homer of the season was during his third at bat on Opening Day at Trustmark Park. His second home run was at Pringles Park on April 15 where he went 4-for-7 against the Jackson Generals. This home run was the game winning run which ended the sixteen inning game on Sunday in Jackson, TN.

Currently, Gac is tied with Mobile's David Nick as the third best bat in the Southern League. Gac is also first in total bases, first for extra-base hits, tied for second in hits, tied for third in doubles, and tied for third in RBIs.
