
Upshaw Homers in 4-1 Loss on Wednesday

Charleston, WV - Armond Upshaw blasted his second home run of the season as the Hagerstown Suns fell to the West Virginia Power 4-1 on Wednesday night at Appalachian Power Park. The Suns fall to 24-36 in the second half with an overall record of 51-77. The Suns and Power will wrap-up the four-game set and season series with a 7:05 PM first pitch on Thursday, which will also serve as the final road game of the Suns 2018 schedule.
After the first 11 Power hitters were retired in order, West Virginia scratched across a run against Suns starter Tim Cate in the fourth inning. With two outs, Cal Mitchell blooped a single into left-center and went to second on a wild pitch. Deon Stafford singled to right, scoring Mitchell to give the Power a 1-0 lead.
West Virginia extended their lead against Cate in the sixth inning. With two outs, Rodolfo Castro doubled to left for the Power's third hit of the game. Mitchell struck again one at-bat later, doubling to right to score Castro and give the Power a 2-0 lead.
The Suns pulled within a run in the seventh against Power reliever Nicholas Economos. With two outs, Armond Upshaw blasted his second home run of the season to make it a 2-1 game. It was the switch-hitter's first long ball since April 17th and brought Hagerstown within a run.
The Power blasted their way to a two-run lead in the eighth against Suns reliever Frankie Bartow. With one out Lolo Sanchez took Bartow deep to left for his fourth home run of the season to make it a 3-1 game. With two outs, Castro hit a 475-foot blast to right that plated the fourth run of the game to put the Power up by three. Hagerstown was unable to mount a comeback, losing their third-straight by a final score of 4-1.
Cate (0-3) tossed six quality innings, allowing two runs on four hits with five strikeouts in a loss. Bartow threw two innings while allowing two runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
Notes: Cate set a new career-high with six innings pitched... He also tossed his first quality start with the Suns... Hagerstown starters have thrown 41 quality starts this season... Cate tied a career-high with five strikeouts... It's the second time he's reached five strikeouts, with the other happening on August 17 against Lexington in his Suns debut... Upshaw extended his on base streak to 12 games.... Freeman also has a 12-game on base streak... Freeman made his 100th start of the season at second base... He and Upshaw are the only two players to make 100 starts at a position with Upshaw reaching the century-mark in center field... The 4-1 loss was the final Wednesday game of the Suns 2018 season... They finish the year 4-14 on Wednesdays... They were 3-7 at home and 1-7 on the road with 10 home runs.... The Suns trail the Power in the season series with a record of 4-9...The Suns conclude the 2018 road schedule and season series with West Virginia on Thursday with a 7:05 PM first pitch... The Suns will send RHP Andrew Lee 4-3, 4.77 ERA) to the mound against Power RHP Samuel Reyes (3-3, 3.16 ERA)...
