York Revolution News Release

The York Revolution endured a second straight clunker, losing 10-2 to the Bridgeport Bluefish on Independence Day afternoon at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. The Revs suffer a series sweep starting the second half 0-3, and will look to rebound in the opener of a nine-game homestand on Friday night when they host the rival Lancaster Barnstormers.

The Revs find themselves in the same position that they did a year ago at 36-37 through 73 games, and winless in the second half. The Revs actually lost each of their first four games of the second half last season, before going on to put together their best half in franchise history.

Bridgeport took an early lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. The inning got off on the wrong foot as Luis Lopez lined an infield single off pitcher Chris Cody's foot to lead things off. James Simmons then blooped a single to center, and Yusuf Carter followed with an RBI double to left for the game's first run. Victor Diaz drove in another run on a fielder's choice to make it 2-0.

The Bluefish then ran ahead with seven runs in the third, matching the biggest inning given up by the Revs this season. Austin Krum started things innocently enough with a bunt single, and a pair of walks loaded the bases with one out. Carter then blooped a single to center plating two runs, and Diaz lined a sacrifice fly to center increasing Bridgeport's lead to 5-0. It appeared Cody was out of the inning after striking out Stantrel Smith on a pitch in the dirt, but catcher Salvador Paniagua's throw to first sailed high, and Bridgeport had runners at second and third on the throwing error. Iggy Suarez then blooped a two-run single to left, and Daniel Mayora nailed a two-run homer to center, as four unearned runs came across extending the lead to 9-0.

Bridgeport pitching coach Pat Ahearne (1-1) made his fourth start in place of an injured Josh Butler, and kept the Revs off-balance all afternoon with an off-speed repertoire. The 43-year-old worked six innings to earn the win, allowing only a two-run double to left by Ruddy Yan in the sixth inning.

Bridgeport scored its final run on an error in the bottom of the seventh.

Cody (8-5) suffered the loss, charged with nine runs (five earned) in five innings. The rough outing comes after he had not allowed an earned run in either of his previous two starts.

The Revs conclude a season-long 11-game road trip with a 3-8 record, having been held to just two runs in all three games in the sweep in Bridgeport. They've dropped nine of their last 12 overall, and have allowed ten or more runs in six of those 12 games. The Revs have fallen a game under .500 for the first time since May 14, and suffer their first sweep against the Bluefish since August, 2010.

York 's Rick Zagone (2-2, 4.28) gets the nod in Friday's opener against the Barnstormers at 6:30 p.m. It is Armed Forces Night at Sovereign Bank Stadium, featuring a game-worn Revolution camo jersey auction presented by BAE Systems and 105.7 The X, a camo Revolution cap giveaway presented by St. Onge, an appearance by Captain America and Wonder Woman, and a postgame Laser Show. Tickets are available at YorkRevolution.com, (717) 801-HITS, and in-person at the Apple Chevrolet Ticket Office.
