Ducks Win Rubber Match 7-5 over Patriots

Central Islip, NY - The Long Island Ducks (2-1, 32-41) defeated the Somerset Patriots (1-2, 46-26) 7-5 in come from behind fashion Thursday night to win the rubber game of the three game midweek series.

In the top of the third inning left fielder Aharon Eggleston registered a RBI double to give the Patriots an early 1-0 lead.

Somerset tacked on three more runs in the top of the fourth inning to make the score 4-0. Second baseman Jeff Baisley hit a two RBI single and Eggleston legged out an RBI infield single

Long Island cut the deficit in half in the ensuing half inning as left fielder Bill Hall slugged a two run home run (5) down the right field line making the score 4-2.

Third baseman Corey Smith tallied a RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to increase the Patriots advantage to 5-2.

Shortstop Dan Lyons blooped a RBI to shallow right field in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the score 5-3 as Somerset still led.

The Ducks scored four runs in the home half of the eighth inning to take a 7-5 lead which they would not relinquish. Third baseman Bryant Nelson hit a RBI single and Hall blasted a go ahead three run home run (6) to deep left field that proved to be the difference.

Eric Niesen (4-0) earned the win in relief. Jason Lowey (3-2) suffered the loss in relief. Closer Leo Rosales notched his 13th save of the year.
