Underhill Called Up To St. John\'s

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL announced today that goaltender Matt Underhill has been loaned to the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Underhill, 25, receives his first AHL call up this season. The 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Underhill becomes the third Mississippi player to advance to the AHL in 2004-05, joining right wing Lee Jacobson (Cincinnati) and left wing Jeff Hutchins (Rochester and Grand Rapids). A native of Campbell River, British Columbia, Underhill has appeared in 23 games with the Sea Wolves posting a 13-7-3 record with three shutouts, a 2.54 goals-against average and .926 save percentage. In 2003-04, Underhill appeared in one game with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League, where he made 29 saves in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Edmonton Oilers on March 7. Underhill also saw action in the AHL last season with the Norfolk Admirals and Manchester Monarchs and with the ECHL Florence Pride. He was selected by the Calgary Flames in the sixth round, 170th overall in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.

Underhill will be available to the Maple Leafs in their next game at 7:30 p.m. NT on Friday against the Hamilton Bulldogs at Mile One Stadium in St. John's, Newfoundland.

The Sea Wolves get back into action at 7:35 p.m. CT on Friday against the Pensacola Ice Pilots at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
