Providence Bruins News Release

SPRINGFIELD, M.A. - Malcolm Subban stopped 29 of the 31 shots he faced, but Dana Tyrell scored in overtime to push the Springfield Falcons past the Providence Bruins 2-1 Saturday night at the Mass Mutual Center.

Providence got on the board first in the opening frame. Ryan Spooner picked up his fourth assist of the weekend by skating through the left circle, then feeding Colin Stuart for a one-timer from the right side at 7:41.

The Falcons had a few great chances on the man advantage, including two in a row, as Subban dove to the right side of the crease for one stop, and lunged back toward the far post for the other. On the play, Steve Eminger committed a penalty that led to 1:40 of a 5-on-3 for the home team. Both Michael Chaput and Luke Adam had chances from point-blank range, missed from the right side, and the Bruins killed the penalty off.

Providence immediately had a potential insurance goal disallowed, as Jared Knight laced it into the cage, but Andrew Cherniwchan interfered with Springfield goalie Scott Munroe.

In the middle stanza, the Falcons had another 0:23 of 5-on-3 time, but could not score. Springfield knotted the game up at one goal apiece at 9:15, when Thomas Larkin shot the puck from the left side of the zone. The best Falcons save all night came from defenseman Jamie Sifers, as he dove to block a shot from Ethan Werek with Munroe on the opposite side of the crease.

In the third, the Falcons limited the Bruins to four shots (just like the second), and had the best scoring opportunity. Domenic Monardo hit the crossbar six minutes into the period.

In overtime, Brian Ferlin created a breakaway for himself, but hit the right post. With the teams down to three skaters aside, the Falcons got the game-winner. Marko Dano had a shot from the right side, put a rebound bid on Subban at the top of the crease, and Tyrell buried the following bounce.

The Bruins' next game is Monday at 3:05pm against the Manchester Monarchs. (Sunday's home game was postponed until Monday due to the winter storm.
