Barons Fall to Rockford 3-1

February 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

The Oklahoma City Barons dropped their second straight decision with a 3-1 setback on the road against the Rockford IceHogs. Rockford goaltender Michael Leighton stopped 26 of the 27 shots he faced, while defenseman Ville Pokka had a goal and an assist on the evening.

Pokka opened the scoring at 4:28 of the first period. With Kellen Jones in the penalty box for closing his hand on the puck, Pokka was able to convert on the power-play opportunity for Rockford.

That's all the scoring that would occur until IceHogs forward Brandon Mashinter scored his ninth of the season with just over a minute to play in the second period. That would prove to be the game winner.

Barons forward Andrew Miller drew the Barons to within one early in the third with his 17th goal of the season. Dillon Simpson and Martin Gernat each drew assists on the play.

Miller's goal snapped the Barons scoreless streak at 123 minutes 29 seconds, a season high. Prior to that tally, the Barons last goal was a Jujar Khaira game-winning goal in the second period against Texas on February 8.

Rockford would go up for good just over five minutes into the third period when Peter Regin potted his sixth goal of the season.

Oklahoma City would outshoot the IceHogs 10-7 in the third period, but were unable to draw any closer.

Barons goaltender Laurent Brossoit stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced on the evening. His record falls to 14-9-2 on the season.

Oklahoma City wastes no time returning to action as they travel to Des Moines to take on the Iowa Wild tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m.
