Eau Claire Express News Release

The Northwoods League announced Friday its 2013 All-Star Game roster, which will be held at the Express' home ballpark: Carson Park.

On that roster for the South Division was Express pitcher and Eau Claire native Tyler Sparger.

The graduate of Memorial High School, about a five minute drive Carson Park, has been masterful at the back end of the Eau Claire bullpen this summer.

In eleven games, the current Minnesota State-Mankato pitcher has recorded a team best 1.28 ERA and is tied for fifth in the league with six saves. In 14 innings pitched, he has eleven strikeouts to go along with just six walks.

Even though he picked up a loss on this night, the short relievers most impressive outing came back on June 5th at Lakeshore. Sparger, who normally doesn't throw more than an inning an appearance, was forced to go 4.2 innings in relief that night and he only gave up one run on two hits and three strikeouts in a 14-inning loss.

His best closing effort of the season came back on June 15 against the La Crosse Loggers. He struck out two of the three batters he faced in a 1-2-3 ninth inning to lock up a 6-4 Eau Claire win.

His Field Manager, Dale Varsho, has loved what he has seen out of Sparger so far.

"Sparg's been good," Varsho said. "He's been working his butt off, he's been running a lot, he's been staying in shape and he's been getting after it the right way. He's a good teammate and he's been fun to have around."

The Northwoods League All-Star Game will take place a week from Tuesday on July 23rd. Both the North and the South divisions have 26 members on their rosters. Sparger will proudly represent the Express organization. All Aboard.
