Kent and Burgess to Represent Honkers in All-Star Game

(Rochester,MN) - Pitcher Matt Kent (Texas A&M) and shortstop Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State) were announced as 2013 Northwoods League North Division All-Stars on Friday, July 12.

Burgess is currently second in the Northwoods League with a .403 batting average and recently hit safely in 23 consecutive games, to give him the second longest hitting streak in team history. He also tied current Major Leaguer Juan Pierre (Manitowoc 1996) for the fourth longest hitting streak in league history.

On Friday, he hit his fourth homerun of the season, to go with his 23 RBI and 22 runs scored in 31 games.

Kent, a second year pitcher for the Honkers, followed up his All-Star bid with a gem on Friday night. He allowed one run on five hits, while striking out nine, in eight innings to earn Northwoods League pitcher of the night. He is now 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA on the season and has collected 28 strikeouts in 40 innings.

The 2013 Northwoods League All-Star game will be played on Tuesday July 23 at 7:35 p.m. at Carlson Park in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.
