(Rochester, MN) - The Willmar Stingers scored three runs in the seventh inning to take a lead in a 5-3 win over the Rochester Honkers on Saturday July 13 at Mayo Field.

Reid Roper (Illinois) drew a lead-off walk to start the bottom of the second inning, Caleb Dugas (Copiah-Lincoln Community College) followed with a single in his first at-bat in a Honkers uniform to put two runners on base with no outs in the inning. Roper came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Mike Friel (Hofstra) to take an early 1-0 lead. Dugas and Roper led the Honkers offense, as they each were 2-for-3 on the night.

Kalei Hanawahine (Hawaii) was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the third inning. He advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt from Carter Burgess (Sam Houston State,) stole third, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Max Murphy (Bradley) to add a run to the Rochester lead.

Marc Flores doubled to start the top of the fourth inning for Willmar and would later score on an error to get the Stingers on the board. Michael Suchy singled with two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Flores walked, and Max Kuhn delivered a RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 after four and a half innings.

The Honkers loaded the bases with just one out in the bottom of the sixth inning, but the scoring rally ended abruptly when Jared Deacon's (Cal State Fullerton) screaming line drive was caught by a leaping Alec Sole and turned into an inning-ending double play.

Sole started the top of the seventh inning by reaching on a walk and scored the go-ahead run on a two-out double from Flores. Two batters later, Colton Bottomley picked up a two-run single to increase the lead to three runs at 5-2.

Rochester got one run back in its half of the seventh inning when Friel reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly from Murphy, but that was all the Honkers offense could manage against the Stingers bullpen.

TJ Whidby picked up the win (3-1) for the Stingers. He allowed one run on one hit in 2.2 innings of work. Brian Schwarzbach (Pennsylvania) took the loss (0-1,) as he allowed three runs on one hit in 1.2 innings. Bret Dahlson earned the save with a perfect ninth inning for Willmar. Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) allowed two runs on six hits in five innings for Rochester.

Rochester (1-9, 19-26) will play in Duluth at Wade Stadium on July 14 at 5:05 p.m. Nick Dolsky (Oklahoma State) is slated to start for the Honkers. Chris Cervantes (Eastern Kentucky) is scheduled to start for the Huskies. Rochester will return home on Wednesday July 17 at 7:05 p.m. to host the Mankato MoonDogs.
