Portland Winterhawks News Release
Winterhawks forward Ty Rattie and defenseman Tyler Wotherspoon were drafted in the second round of the 2011 National Hockey League Draft Saturday, Rattie 32nd overall by the St. Louis Blues and Wotherspoon 57th overall by the Calgary Flames.
"I'm very happy for Ty, Tyler and their families on being selected in the NHL Draft," said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Mike Johnston. "Being drafted is the first step, but with lots of work still ahead of them, each of these players has the work ethic to play and succeed in the NHL."
Rattie finished the season with 28 goals and 51 assists for 79 points, a 42-point improvement on his rookie campaign in 2009-10. He then posted nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points in 21 playoff games. Rattie was the second overall pick of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
Wotherspoon had two goals and 10 assists for 12 points during the regular season, a seven-point improvement from his 2009-10 rookie campaign. He then added three goals and one assist for four points in 20 playoff games. The Winterhawks originally selected Wotherspoon in the second round, 23rd overall, of the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft.
The Winterhawks had four players drafted overall this year, including yesterday's first round picks Sven Bartschi and Joe Morrow. Bartschi went 13th overall to the Flames, and Morrow went 23rd overall to the Pittsburgh Penguins. With eight players taken in last year's draft, the Winterhawks have had 12 players taken in the last two NHL Drafts,.
