Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Lincoln Saltdogs suffered their third loss in four games on Friday, losing 5-4 at St. Paul. Lincoln drops to 46-42 on the season, 17-23 in the second half.

The game turned in the bottom of the sixth inning just minutes after Lincoln had tied the game at three in the top of the sixth. A one-out error prolonged the frame, and Saltdogs starter Angel Castro (3-3) found himself facing Brandon Carter with two on and two out. Carter struck a double to right, scoring a pair of unearned runs for a 5-3 lead. The Saltdogs scored a run in the top of the eighth on an RBI double by Brandon Jones to get within a run, but Jones was left stranded and Lincoln could get no closer.

Lincoln started the game well when Gavin Dickey hit the first pitch of the night over the right-field fence for his fourth leadoff home run of the season. St. Paul struck back with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, however, and added another run in the third for a 3-1 lead. The 'Dogs got within 3-2 in the fifth inning when Albenis Machado scored on a Pat Trettel single and an error. Lincoln then tied the game in the top of the sixth on a long home run to right by Jones.

Jones ended the night 2-for-4 with his 12th home run and two RBI. Rafael Alvarez had the only other multi-hit night for Lincoln, going 2-for-3 with a pair of walks. The Saltdogs out-hit St. Paul 10 to 7, but left eight men on base, five of them in scoring position.

The two teams play game two of their three-game series Saturday night at 7:05. Left-hander Cody Walden is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs.
