Wichita Wingnuts News Release

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts completed a deadline deal acquiring all-star closer Dustin Cameron from the Fort Worth Cats on Friday afternoon.

Cameron currently ranks fifth in the league with 16 saves while pitching to a 3.35 ERA in 40 appearances. The sidearming right-hander has struck out 36 hitters in 40.1 IP this season. The Joplin, MO native is in his fifth professional season and entered 2010 with a career ERA of 3.13 and 165 strikeouts in 195.2 IP. Cameron saved 14 games for the Pensacola Pelicans in 2008 and notched 14 more last season for the Cats. Cameron was a teammate of Michael Bell, Ryan Patterson, and Jae Jung while with the Cats in 2009. Cameron is expected to join the Wingnuts on Saturday for the second game of their series at El Paso.

The Wingnuts acquired Cameron in exchange for the reversionary rights to former closer Justin Dowdy, whom the Wingnuts acquired at last year's trade deadline from Shreveport-Bossier. Dowdy was purchased by the Tampa Bay Rays organization earlier this month.

The Wingnuts open a three-game series at El Paso tonight at 8:05 p.m. CST. The Wingnuts next play at home on Friday, August 27th against the Diablos. For tickets, call the Wingnuts' office at (316) 264-NUTS.
