Erie SeaWolves News Release

(Erie, PA) - The Erie SeaWolves, Double-A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers, are pleased to announce that two of the clubs top prospects have been named to the SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game.

Third baseman Nick Castellanos and relief pitcher Bruce Rondon will make the trip to Kansas City to participate in the Futures Game on July 8. Castellanos will play on the U.S. team while Rondon will play for the World team.

Castellanos is hitting .273 with one home run and four RBI as a member of the SeaWolves. Before joining Erie, Castellanos hit .405 with 3 home runs, 32 RBIs, and 17 doubles in 55 games with Class-A Lakeland.

Rondon has made one appearance with Erie, throwing one scoreless inning and striking out one. With Class-A Lakeland, Rondon posted a 1-0 record and 1.93 ERA in 23.1 innings, with 34 strikeouts and a .152 opponents batting average. He converted on 15 of 16 save opportunities.

Castellanos was the Tigers first pick (44th overall) in the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Archbishop McCarthy High School in Davie, Florida. Castellanos was named a Post-Season All-Star at the end of last season. Rondon was signed as a non-drafted free agent by the Tigers in September of 2007. He has been named a mid-season All-Star in his last three seasons.

It is the second consecutive season that the SeaWolves have sent two players to the Futures Game. In 2011, top prospects Jacob Turner and Francisco Martinez participated in the event.

The SeaWolves continue a seven-game homestand on Friday night as they host the Binghamton Mets (New York Mets) at 7:05. The first 1,000 fans on Friday receive a free SeaWolves cap.
