Aeros Wrap Series with 4-2 Loss

June 21, 2012 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron, OH - Binghamton's Eric Campbell delivered a pair of RBI doubles, and collected three hits overall as the Mets edged the Akron Aeros, 4-2, in the series and homestand finale at Canal Park on Thursday night.

Campbell, an 8th round pick of the Mets in 2008 out of Boston College, lauched a run-scoring double to center off Kyle Landis (4-2) in the sixth inning, tying the game at 2-2. He scored when the next hitter, Wilmer Flores, bounced an infield hit to short for a 3-2 lead.

Campbell added an insurance run in the eighth with another RBI double, this one off the wall in left, against Aeros righthander Bryce Stowell, to make it 4-2.

Robert Carson worked around a lead-off walk to Ryan Rohlinger in the ninth to post his 5th save.

The Aeros (45-27) took early leads of 1-0, and 2-1, against B-Mets starter Gonzalez Germen (4-4), but couldn't throw a knockout punch. Germen scattered seven hits and allowed just two runs, one earned, and extended his personal winning streak to three straight starts.

Adam Abraham and Juan Diaz had two hits apiece for the Aeros. Chun Chen had an RBI single in the first inning off Germen.

Giovanni Soto started for Akron and breezed through the first five innings, allowing only a solo homer to Francisco Pena, on Pena's first double-A at-bat. Soto then walked back-to-back hitters in the sixth before giving way to Landis.

The Aeros will hit the road Friday and begin a four-game wrap-around series at Altoona. Friday's game will begin at 7:00 PM, and will feature a pitching matchup of RHP Steven Wright (5-4, 1.79) for Akron and RHP Brandon Cumpton (7-5, 3.22) for the Curve. All Aeros games are broadcast on Fox Sports 1350 AM and online at www.akronaeros.com. For more information, please call the Aeros at 330-253-5151.
