Richmond Pounds 17 Hits to Take Series Win in Trenton

(Trenton, NJ) - Richmond collected 17 hits as the as the Flying Squirrels topped the Trenton Thunder, 7-2, Thursday night in front of 6,419 fans at Waterfront Park. In a game that featured 38 total baserunners, the Squirrels built an early 7-0 lead and took two of three in the series from Trenton.

Gary Brown, Mark Minicozzi and Juan Perez each had three of Richmond's 17 base knocks, 16 of which were singles. Trenton starter Adam Miller (0-2) allowed ten hits in 3.1 innings pitched to take the loss, while Francisco Rondon relieved Miller and issued three runs on five hits in 2.2 frames.

Jose Pirela walked a career-high four times and also singled to pace the Thunder offense, which garnered single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Squirrels starter Mike Kickham (5-5) walked a career-high six batters in 5.2 innings but held Trenton to only one run and four hits.

The Thunder next welcome the Red Sox affiliate Portland Sea Dogs to Waterfront Park for a four-game series beginning with the opener Friday night. Trenton left-hander Shaeffer Hall (5-6) slated to start against righty Stolmy Pimentel (1-3). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
