
Two Out Rally Pushes RedHawks Past Pheasants 8-4

Fargo, ND - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks scored four runs in the eighth and shut out the Sioux Falls Pheasants in the ninth to win 8-4 and extend their home winning streak to 11 games on July 26, 2012 at Newman Outdoor Field.
The RedHawks began their rally in the eighth with two outs. Todd Jennings walked, Carlo Cota reached base on a fielding error, and Zach Penprase hit an infield single to load the bases with a 4-4 score.
Ryan Stovall hit the eventual game winning run with a bloop double into right field scoring Jennings and Cota which gave Fargo-Moorhead a 6-4 lead. After a Nic Jackson walk, Eric Campbell hit an infield single that scored Penprase and a resulting throwing error by Cory Morales allowed Stovall to score from second and give the RedHawks an 8-4 victory.
"I really wasn't trying to do much," said Ryan Stovall on his game-winning double, "Zach battled to get on and I was just trying to get it to the next guy."
Stovall batted 3-for-5 with a double, a run, and two RBIs to lead the RedHawks at the plate. Ryan Delgado and Campbell each had two hits with RBI singles, Penprase picked up two hits, and Nic Jackson hit a two-run home run in the fourth that initially gave the RedHawks a 4-0 lead in the fifth.
Sioux Falls (29-35) battled back from four runs down. Christian Guerrero lead off the the sixth with a double and was driven in by a Trevor Lawhorn two-run home run to cut the deficit to 4-2. Ridge Carpenter went 2-for-4 with solo home runs in the sixth and eighth innings which tied the game at 4-4.
RedHawks reliever Joe Harris picked up his first win of the season. In 1/3 innings of work, Harris gave up two hits and one earned run which came off the Carpenter home run in the eighth. Alex Caldera started the game pitching 5 1/3 innings and giving up three earned runs on seven hits with four walks and six strikeouts for Fargo-Moorhead (41-23).
Pheasants starter Peter Gehle went six innings giving up four earned runs on eight hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Jack Van Leur (3-1) picked up the loss after he allowed Todd Jennings to reach base on a walk in the eighth. Kyle Mertins came in for relief but came out after giving up three runs and retiring no batters.
The RedHawks completed a three-game sweep of the Pheasants and have now swept three opponents during their 11-game home winning streak. Fargo-Moorhead hits the road to face Gary SouthShore and St. Paul before returning home to face the Lincoln Saltdogs on August 3. Sioux Falls continues on their six-game road trip heading north to face the Winnipeg Goldeyes in a three-game series.
