WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Wingnuts (37-27) lost 5-0 to the Amarillo Sox (35-31) at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium on Thursday night.

Sox' starting pitcher Justin Garcia completed a three-hit shutout, with no walks and five strikeouts. Garcia prevented the Wingnuts from getting a runner past second base, and did not allow any baserunners with less than two outs.

Amarillo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Gerardo Verastegui scored on a passed ball.

The Sox broke the game open with a four-run top of the seventh. With first and second and one out, Verastegui singled through the left side with the runners in motion to plate Alberto Espinosa. After Wingnuts' starter Josh Lowey retired Trent Lare on a sacrifice bunt, Harrison Kain hit a three-run home run to left field that made it 5-0.

Lowey took a tough loss, allowing five earned runs on 10 hits in seven innings. Lowey struck out five and did not walk a batter.

David Peralta's eight-game hitting streak came to an end.

The Wingnuts now begin their annual, late-season road trip while the 78th annual NBC World Series takes place at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. The 15-game stretch over 16 days starts Friday night with a three-game series at Laredo. First pitch at Uni-Trade Stadium is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Dumas Garcia starts for the Wingnuts.
