Bristol, Virginia - The Elizabethton Twins outhit the Bristol Pirates 12-10, but nearly ¾ of the hits between the two teams were singles, resulting in a 3-2 Pirates win.

Sawyer Gipson-Long made his third start of the season and held Bristol to one run through his first two innings. Gipson-Long encountered struggles in the third, though, giving up two runs on a pair of hits and a throwing error to first.

Bristol led 3-0 after the third inning and reliever Cody Laweryson did everything possible to keep Elizabethton in the game. He recorded all three outs of the third and went on to pitch the next four innings as well, not allowing any runs and striking out eight.

The Twins finally found a way onto the scoreboard in the sixth, when Matt Wallner doubled home Parker Phillips in the sixth inning. It was the third of three hits on the day for Wallner and his second double of the day as well. With his two doubles, the 39th overall pick took over the Appalachian League leaderboard with 13 doubles and brought his season RBI total to 15.

Laweryson and Dylan Thomas, who pitched a scoreless eighth, kept the E-Twins in the game heading to the ninth, when Elizabethton struck for a run on three straight two-out singles. Charles Mack and Seth Gray both singled, then Parker Phillips drove Mack in.

Matt Wallner could not come through with his fourth hit of the game, however, flying out to deep right field to end the game.

The E-Twins and BriBucs will play the second game of the weekend series in Bristol Saturday at 6:30 p.m. with Prelander Berroa making his seventh start of the series for Elizabethton.
