JOHNSON CITY - The Johnson City Cardinals got a two-run home run from catcher Brandon Purcell in the seventh to rally past the Greeneville Reds 5-4 Friday evening in front of a raucous crowd of 3,224 at TVA Credit Union Ballpark.

The Cards got out to an early lead in the game, scoring twice in the first on an RBI double by Todd Lott and a sacrifice fly by Chandler Redmond. The double was the 12th of the season for Lott, who leads the Appalachian League in that category.

Carlos Soler caught Allan Cerda trying to score from second on a perfect throw from right field following a single by Garrett Wolforth in the top of the first. He gave an encore with his first homer of the season in the bottom of the second to extend the early Johnson City lead to 3-0.

The Reds scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to even the score vs. Cards starter Julio Puello, who received a no-decision. Raul Juarez went deep vs. relief man Tyler Peck to give the Reds a 4-3 lead in the sixth. Peck bounced back by stranding the bases loaded in the seventh to keep Johnson City within one. The Reds left 11 in the game.

Brandon Purcell blasted a Patrick Raby offering over the left field wall in the seventh to score himself and Liam Sabino. His first homer of the year gave Johnson City a 5-4 advantage it would not relinquish. Will Guay struck out four in two scoreless innings in the eighth and ninth to earn his second save of the season.

Peck (2-2) earned the win by limiting the Reds to just the Juarez home run. Baby (1-1) suffered his first professional loss. The Cardinals won despite being outhit 7-5.

The Cards (19-17) and Reds (16-20) meet again Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The evening will feature a special Peppa Pig appearance presented by Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union. It will also be a Sound Off Saturday presented by Campbell's Morell Music. Fans are invited to come to the ballpark at 5:00 p.m. for live pregame music from the Lauren Cole Band on the concourse.

Johnson City is expected to start RHP Jake Sommers vs. RHP Jake Gilbert (0-0, 1.80 ERA) for Greeneville. First pitch at TVA Credit Union Ballpark is slated for 6:30 p.m.
