Burlington, N.C. - The Royals were unable to stop the Rays on Friday in a 9-4 loss at Hunnicutt Field.
In the top of the first inning, Burlington scored first on a two-run home run from Jake Means. However, Princeton answered with a three-run long ball from Diego Infante and a two-run double from Kevin Melendez to take a 5-2 lead.
The Royals chipped away at the deficit in the top of the second on a sacrifice fly from Raymond Lopez. Later, in the top of the fifth, Michael Massey crossed home on a wild pitch to cut the Rays lead to just 5-4.
Then, in the bottom of the fifth, Princeton iced the game on a pair of homers from Infante and Luis Leon that put the Rays in front 9-4.
Stanly Sabino earned the win for the Rays with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief, while Angel Zerpa took the loss for earning all nine of Princeton's runs.
The two teams square off again tomorrow, with first pitch at Hunnicutt Field set for 6:30 p.m.
