Two Monster Swings + Frankenstein = Split
June 19, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
The RockHounds used a pair of dramatic home runs to win the first game of Thursday's double-header in San Antonio, 4-1, and the Missions "Frankenstein-ed" (pieced together) a pair of first-inning runs to gain a split, capturing the nightcap, 3-1.
Trailing by a 1-0 score and down to their final out in game one of the double-dip, the 'Hounds got a solo, game-tying home run from Carson Blair to force extra innings. In the eighth, again with two outs, Renato Nuñez ripped his team-leading ninth home run, a three-run line drive over the left field wall. Both homers came off San Antonio closer (and Padres' top 30 prospect) Tayron Guerrero. Chris Jensen went seven innings (see below), allowing one (unearned) run on two hits, and Tucker Healy pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning for his second save.
Travis Jankowski's leadoff double was followed by Alberth Martinez' Pittsburgh Chop to start game two, and the Missions used a balk, a ground out and a sacrifice fly to build a 2-0 first-inning lead. The advantage would provide the final margin, giving the Missions a split.
