Indianapolis Indians News Release
INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians' catcher Erik Kratz and field manager Frank Kremblas have been selected to take part in the 2010 Triple-A All-Star Game, which will be played at Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, Pennsylvania on July 14 at 7:07 p.m. EDT.
The International League's top players will face the Pacific Coast League's best in the 23rd annual contest, which will be televised live on MLB Network as well as MiLB.TV on the World Wide Web. The All-Star Game week schedule in Lehigh Valley also includes the "Pigapalooza" Fan Fest on Saturday, July 10 and the annual Triple-A Home Run Derby on Monday, July 12.
The 2010 International League All-Star squad is made up of 13 elected players who have received the most votes from ballots submitted by clubs' field managers and general managers (1/3), members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). The elected players are joined by 17 additional All-Stars selected by the International League office. Each of the IL's 14 clubs will be represented in Lehigh Valley.
Kratz currently leads all Tribe batters who have recorded at least 150 at-bats with a .306 batting average, a .406 on-base percentage and a .575 slugging percentage and also tops the team in doubles with 17 on the season. The Indians' catcher also ranks second on the team with eight home runs and third with 30 RBI.
The 30-year-old is in the midst of a solid month of June during which time he has hit .292 (19-for-65) with seven doubles, three home runs, nine RBI and 12 walks in 20 contests. Kratz also represented the Tribe in the 2009 All-Star Game where he was named the IL Top Star after going 2-for-2 with a walk, a double and a two-run home run.
Indianapolis Indians' field manager Frank Kremblas has also been selected as a coach for the 2010 IL All-Star squad. Kremblas, who has guided the Tribe to a 44-35 record heading into play on Wednesday, June 30, is a former PCL Manager of the Year and championship-winning skipper from his days with the Nashville Sounds of the Pacific Coast League.
Indianapolis has now had 13 players invited to the midsummer classic in six seasons as a Pittsburgh Pirates affiliate. RHP Mark Corey, LHP Zach Duke, OF Nate McLouth and RHP Ian Snell were given the nod in 2005, while LHP Tom Gorzelanny was honored in 2006. INF Brian Bixler, RHP Bryan Bullington and UTIL Yurendell de Caster participated in 2007, Bixler and OF Andrew McCutchen were invited in 2008 and Kratz and RHP Chris Bootcheck were both selected in 2009.
