G-Braves Win Fourth Straight

The Lead: The Gwinnett Braves defeated the Toledo Mud Hens 7-4 on Wednesday night at Fifth Third Field. G-Braves starting pitcher Jose Ortegano struck out 9 Mud Hens, which is a Triple-A career-high for him. Gwinnett has won four straight games and have a chance to clinch the series win tomorrow night. Gwinnett (38-42) remains 10.5 games behind Durham in the International League South while Toledo (41-39) remains 6 games behind Columbus in the International League West division.

It Was Over When: In the top of the 8th inning with the score tied 4-4, Matt Young hit a 2-RBI single that put the G-Braves ahead 6-4. Wes Timmons' RBI single later in the inning brought Matt Young home for the final score for Gwinnett.

Braves Beat:

On the Mound: Ortegano allowed 2 R/ER on 4 hits in 5.1 IP. Scott Proctor (2-2) was credited with the win, striking out 2 in 1.2 innings. IL All-Star Michael Dunn earned his 6th save tonight, pitching a scoreless 9th inning.

At the plate: IL All-Star Barbaro Canizares (1-for-4) hit his fifth home run of the year. Joe Thurston went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The opposition:

On the Mound: L.J. Gagnier allowed 4 R/ER on 5 hits in 5.2 IP. Brendan Wise (3-2) took the loss, allowing 3 R/ER on 4 hits in 1.1 IP.

At the plate: Brent Dlugach went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI.

On Deck: Gwinnett takes on Toledo in game three of a four-game series tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. Toledo will start RHP Alfredo Figaro (6-5, 4.52 ERA). Gwinnett will send LHP Mike Minor (NR) to the mound in his Triple-A pitching debut.
