Gwinnett Stripers News Release
Gwinnett Braves 1B/DH Barbaro Canizares and pitcher Michael Dunn have been selected to the 2010 IL All-Star team, as announced by the International League today (full release and roster attached). This year's game will take place at Coca-Cola Field in Allentown, PA, home of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, on Wednesday, July 14 and will be broadcast live on the MLB Network.
Canizares is no stranger to the Triple-A All-Star Game. This is the third year in a row that he has been named to the IL roster. This season, he posted an 11-game hitting streak, getting at least one hit in every game from April 29 - May 12. Through the month of June, he leads the team in batting average with .314. His batting average has been in the Top 10 in the IL for most of the month of June.
Dunn will be making his first-ever appearance in the Triple-A All Star Game. This is his second All-Star selection, as he was selected to participate in the Double-A Eastern League All-Star Game in 2009. This season, Dunn didn't allow a single run between April 19 and May 20 and owns the season's longest scoreless streak for any G-Braves pitcher with 17.2 IP. Dunn has had the highest K/9 IP ratio among IL relievers with 12.29. Through the month of June, Dunn has 51 strikeouts in 37.1 IP.
The 23rd annual Triple-A All-Star Game returns to an International League park after the IL was victorious at the 2009 game in Portland. The 2010 All-Star festivities will be held at Coca-Cola Field consisting of several days of exciting events, including a fan festival and the Home Run Derby. The "Pigapalooza" FanFest will be Saturday, July 10 from noon to 9:00 p.m. and the Home Run Derby will take place on Monday, July 12 at 7:00 p.m. Participants in the Home Run Derby will be announced on Wednesday, July 7.
