Two Comebacks Not Enough in 12-Inning Loss for Tribe

April 22, 2016 - International League (IL1)
Indianapolis Indians News Release

LOUISVILLE, KY. (April 21, 2016) - Two separate deficits were erased by the Indianapolis Indians, but it would not be enough as the Louisville Bats came away with the win in 12 innings, 6-5.

Jermaine Curtis led off the 12th inning for the Bats (6-6) with a single to center field, and he would end the game when he crossed home plate on the sacrifice fly by Kyle Waldrop.

The game was propelled into extra innings in the bottom of the ninth when Jesse Winker singled home Juan Perez. It knotted the game, and was Winker's second run batted in of the night.

The two late scores from Louisville wiped away a valiant charge by the Indians (6-6). Dan Gamache came through with a clutch pinch-hit single to tie the game in the top of the sixth. It marked the second comeback of the night for the Indians, who would briefly take the lead on Willy Garcia's single in the seventh.

Three Major League rehabbers pitched in the game between the two clubs. Pittsburgh's Jared Hughes recorded a routine sixth inning, and Cory Luebke worked a pair of scoreless frames in the seventh and eighth innings.

Homer Bailey started the game for the Bats, and the Cincinnati Reds right-hander struck out six Tribe batters before exiting in the fourth inning. Jason Rogers homered off of Bailey in the fourth, his third homer of the season.

Chad Rogers (1-0) entered the game out of the Louisville bullpen in the top of the 10th inning, and he registered three shutout frames to earn the victory. John Kuchno (0-2) was in the midst of this third inning when the game ended.

The Indians are in the midst of an eight-game road trip, and they'll play game two of the excursion on Friday night against the Bats at 7:05 p.m.
