Indianapolis Indians News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY. - Josh Bell hit for the cycle and the Indianapolis Indians erupted for a season-high run total to topple the Louisville Bats on Friday night, 13-1. Bell hit a grand slam in an eight-run third inning for the Tribe.
Bell's grand slam was the first for the Indians (7-6) since May 26, 2015. The switch-hitting first baseman singled home Alen Hanson to commence the night's scoring in the first inning, but his grand slam was launched in the third. He connected with two outs in the inning, and it capped an eight-run frame.
Ed Easley had recorded the inning's biggest hit prior to Bell's slam; he doubled home a pair of runs with one out. Hanson and Willy Garcia also picked up runs batted in during the eight-run rally.
Steven Brault (1-1) struck out nine batters in his five innings of work to earn the win. It was the most punch outs for Brault since July 28, 2015, when he fanned nine in a start for Double-A Altoona. The victory marked Brault's first win at the Triple-A level in just his third start.
Seven of the nine Indianapolis starters recorded at least one hit, including Brault who doubled in the fifth. Adam Frazier amassed four hits in five at-bats, and the Tribe's tally of 18 is a new season high.
Pittsburgh Pirates infielder Jung Ho Kang played in his third rehab game for the Tribe, and he reached base on a pair of walks. He also made a diving play at third base, throwing out a runner while leaping to his feet.
Louisville (6-7) plated an unearned run in the first inning, but it would be the lone blemish in the run column for the Indians. John Lamb (0-2), on a rehab start from the Cincinnati Reds, was handed the loss. The left-hander allowed nine runs; all earned, and was lifted in the third inning one batter before Bell's slam.
The Indians will go for the series victory on Saturday afternoon against Louisville; first pitch is set for 2:05 p.m. It marks game three of an eight-game road trip for Indianapolis, and the team will return to Victory Field on Friday, April 29.
