Louisville Bats News Release

LOUISVILLE, Ky- A beautiful Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field saw a lopsided loss for the Bats, 13-1. Major League rehabber LHP John Lamb (0-2, 19.06) suffered the loss against Indianapolis. LHP Steven Brault (1-1, 2.63) came through with his first win on the young season. The series is now even with the rubber match tomorrow afternoon.

Lamb started his night with a 37 pitch first inning. A lead off single by Alen Hanson was followed by a single from Adam Frazier. Josh Bell drove in his first of five runs on a single one batter later. Lamb was able to escape further damage by striking out the final two batters of the inning.

The Bats produced their lone run of the game in the bottom of the first. A lead off walk by Jose Peraza allowed him to steal his first base of the year. Once in scoring position, a groundout by Jesse Winker and an error on Bell allowed Peraza to come around and score. The Bats ended the bottom half of the first inning the same way the top of the inning did, with two strikeouts.

Lamb ran into his biggest trouble in the third inning. Bell opened the inning with a double. Willy Garcia drove him in on a fielder's choice. Danny Ortiz singled and Ed Easlely doubled, driving in two runs. Another RBI single from Hanson, a single from Frazier, and a walk by Major League rehabber Jung Ho Kang ended Lamb's night. RHP AJ Morris came in to face Bell for his second at bat of the inning. Bell cleared the bases with a grand slam, capping off an eight-run inning.

RHP Pedro Villarreal replaced Morris and pitched the fifth and sixth innings. In the fifth, Villarreal allowed a lead off double to Brault. A groundout and an error on Seth Mejias-Brean brought Brault home to score. Villarreal ran into trouble in the sixth inning as well. To open up the top of the frame, Villarreal gave up triples to Max Moroff and Garcia. Both scored, with Garcia scoring on a groundout by Easley.

In the top of the 9th inning, Bell tripled to right field to complete the cycle. Bell finished four-for-five with a single, double, triple, and grand slam with 5 RBI.

In Lamb's second rehab start with Louisville, he went two and two-thirds innings. He allowed eleven hits, nine runs (all earned), one walk, and struck out three on 78 pitches (51 strikes).

Tomorrow is Thunder Over Louisville Day at Louisville Slugger Field. The 2:05 PM start time is already a sell-out as RHP Josh Smith (2-0, 0.00) toes the rubber for the Bats and faces RHP Jameson Taillon (1-0, 2.61).
