LOUISVILLE,Ky. - Reds' RHP Homer Bailey made a Major League rehab start as the Louisville Bats beat the Indianapolis Indians 6-5 on Thursday night at Louisville Slugger Field. The Bats tied the game in bottom of the ninth sending extra innings and would secure the win the 12th inning on a Kyle Waldrop sac fly.
Bailey pitched three and two-thirds innings striking out six, allowing three hits, two walks, and two runs including a home run. He threw 67 pitches, 41 for strikes.
In the first inning for Bailey he threw 17 pitches and 10 strikes. Bailey was able to strikeout three of the four batters he faced. In the second and third he worked around a hit and struck out one in each of the innings. In his fourth and final inning he recorded two outs and allowed a home run by Jason Rogers, but got a ground out to complete his outing.
Through one inning the Bats held off the Indians and even though they didn't have a hit they were able to score a run off an RBI by 2B Carlos Triunfel to put the Bats up 1-0.
In the fourth inning the Indian's 3B Jason Rogers hit a solo home run to tie the ball game, but the Indians would score two more runs by Jacob Stallings and Gift Ngope before the inning was over, putting the score 3-1. The Bats brought in another run in the home half of the fourth with an RBI by Ramon Cabrera to put the Bats within one, but a strike out by Bryson Smith would conclude the inning leaving the score 3-2.
The Bats were able to pull back ahead in the fifth with a single by Jesse Winker who singled in Juan Perez and Jermaine Curtis knocked in Jose Peraza to give the Bats a 4-3 lead. The Indians would come back and score a run in the sixth and seventh to recapture the lead, 5-4.
In the bottom of the ninth the Bats tied up the game with a single by Winker scoring in Perez with the score at 5-5 sending the game to extra innings. The game remained tied until Kyle Waldrop hit a pop up to score in Curtis for the winning run in the 12th for a 6-5 win for the Bats.
RHP Chad Rogers (1-0, 0.00) would take home the win. Rogers pitched three innings only getting one hit.
Tomorrow the Bats and Indians will continue their three-game series as lefty John Lamb makes his second rehab start and left Steve Brault will get the ball for the Indians. Game time at 7:05.
