Calgary, AB - The Calgary Hitmen Hockey Club would like to congratulate forward Brett Sonne and General Manager Kelly Kisio on winning Western Hockey League awards.

Sonne has captured the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as WHL Player of the Year.

The 19-year-old St. Louis Blues prospect had a break-out season for the Hitmen finishing third in league scoring with 100 points (48g 52a). It earned him a spot on the Eastern Conference First All-Star Team.

Sonne accomplished those feats while missing 10 regular season games. It was during that time he helped Team Canada win a gold medal at the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship.

He becomes the third Hitmen in just four seasons to win the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy joining Karl Alzner (2007/08) and Justin Pogge (2005/06). Hitmen Brad Moran was also named WHL MVP in the 1999/2000 season.

Meanwhile Kisio has captured the Lloyd Saunders Memorial Trophy as Executive of the Year. It's the second time in his career he's received the award also winning in the 2003-04 season.

Kisio helped build a Hitmen team that posted the second best regular season record in WHL history (59-9-3-1) at 122 points.

Both Sonne and Kisio will now move on as WHL nominees at the Canadian Hockey League Awards, which will be handed out during the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup in Rimouski, Quebec.
