Stefan Elliott Named WHL Scholastic Player of the Year

Saskatoon, SK - The Saskatoon Blades are pleased to announce that defenseman Stefan Elliott has been named the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year for the 2008/2009 season. Elliott has maintained a 93.3% average while dealing with the busy schedule of a Western Hockey League player. Stefan is the first ever Saskatoon Blades player to win the WHL Scholastic Player of the Year award.

Stefan Elliott improved upon his rookie season in all stat categories this season. In 71 games played, Elliott recorded 16 goals, 39 assists, and was a +20 on the season; a drastic improvement from last year's -18. Elliott participated in the CHL Top Prospect's game this season and is eligible for the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, held in Montreal, Quebec on June 26-27. Stefan recently competed for Team Canada at the Under-18 World Championships.

Elliott and the rest of the Saskatoon Blades stress the importance of education on a daily basis. All players are held accountable for their school work and if it is not completed or grades fall below where they should be, the player will be disciplined until their grades improve.
