Tulsa Hosts Quad City in Week 18 Finale
July 14, 2023 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Quad City Steamwheelers News Release
After a dominant defensive 47-39 win over the Green Bay Blizzard, the Quad City Steamwheelers (9-5) are riding a two-game winning streak heading into the 2023 regular season finale against the Tulsa Oilers (1-13).
The last time these two teams faced each other, the Wheelers walked away with a 68-42 win in the Oilers' home debut at the BOK Center. Things haven't turned around for Tulsa since then, winning only one of 14 games so far this season. It's worth noting that despite the team's 1-13 record, they have played competitive football in many close and one score games this season.
Last Saturday night, Quad City eliminated Green Bay from postseason contention and earned a playoff birth for the second consecutive season. Quarterback E.J. Hilliard Jr. produced 184 total yards of offense (112 passing, 72 rushing) and connected with Quad City veteran receiver Mike Carrigan in his return for a touchdown.
For the second consecutive week, Hilliard took zero sacks behind Quad City's offensive line.
Rookie wide receiver C.J. Windham scored his 12th touchdown of the season on the opening kickoff, taking it all the way to the house. The Wheelers answered again on the following kickoff, with linebacker Marquis Hendrix recovering a loose ball to score a touchdown on special teams.
Defensive back Darreon Jackson led the team with seven total tackles, bringing his season total to 87. Hendrix wasn't far behind with six total tackles of his own. Vincent Shaw and Kendricks Gladney Jr. both hauled in interceptions, with Shaw taking his 25 yards to the house. It was an all-around team win.
Now, the Steamwheelers will turn their attention to Tulsa. A win will bring the team's record to 10-5 for the regular season and position them for a possible No. 2 seed in the postseason if the Massachusetts Pirates (9-5) lose to the Sioux Falls Storm (8-6) on the road.
What will happen when the defending Eastern Conference Champions of the IFL travel to Tulsa for the regular season finale in a game with potential postseason ramifications? Tune in Saturday July 15th at 7:05 p.m. CT to find out.
