IFL Week Eighteen Preview

Published on July 14, 2023 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

It's hard to believe, but it's the final week of the 2023 IFL regular season. Just as the season-long parity would suggest, there is still a lot to decide for playoff seeding. Look for a playoff seeding scenario breakdown later in this article.

Frisco boasts the best record in the league in 2023, having been led by TJ Edwards in the air and on the ground. The Fighters have the No. 1 seed locked up and will be on the road against an Iowa team that was decimated by injuries in 2023. They'll look to snag one more win before the campaign ends.

Massachusetts visits Sioux Falls on Saturday. Both teams have clinched a playoff berth, but both could end up anywhere from the second to the fourth seed. This all depends on who wins their matchup and who is victorious in the Quad City vs Tulsa game. More details later.

Quad City is in the same boat. They could land anywhere between the second and fourth seed in the East. They'll travel to Tulsa to take on the one-win Oilers. With a win and a Massachusetts loss, they would jump to the second seed. With a loss and a Sioux Falls win, they could fall to the fourth seed. Again, full breakdown below.

Vegas and San Diego will square off in Southern California. Both teams have top quarterbacks, but neither team will be playing next week. Now Daquan Neal and Nate Davis will battle as their focus shifts to 2024. In just nine games with San Diego, Davis has thrown for over 1,900 yards and 43 touchdowns. But it wasn't enough to muster up a playoff appearance. Now he'll take the field one more time in 2023.

Tucson will host Green Bay and will have the opportunity to move up in the standings. The Sugar Skulls had a late run to get them into the third spot in the West. But they still have plenty to play for as they could still find themselves in the four seed. Green Bay, who was eliminated in week 17, can play spoiler for the Sugar Skulls.

Arizona and Northern Arizona face off with the possibility of doing the same in round one of the playoffs. The Rattlers went on an incredible run to take the No. 1 seed and on the other side, the Wranglers slid from the number one spot in the second half of the season. With a loss, Arizona could slip to second and with a win Northern Arizona could climb to third.

The regular season closes out with Bay Area taking on Duke City. Bay Area had a great season behind Dalton Sneed, Justin Rankin, and a stout defense. They are guaranteed a first-round home game. They also still have a shot at the number one spot. Duke City will end their season and they'll have their sights set on next year, but not before trying to hand Bay Area one last loss.

There are many Playoff seeding scenarios. Here is an attempt to make it as simple as possible:

Western Conference

Arizona Rattlers:

#1 seed with a win or Bay Area loss

#2 seed with loss and Bay Area win

Bay Area Panthers:

#1 seed with a win and AZ loss

#2 seed with loss or AZ win

Tucson Sugar Skulls:

#3 seed with a Win and or NAZ loss

#4 seed with a loss and NAZ win

Northern Arizona Wranglers:

#3 seed with a win and a Tucson loss

#4 seed with a loss or Tucson win

Eastern Conference

Frisco Fighters:

Has clinched #1 seed

Massachusetts Pirates:

#2 seed with a win

#3 seed with a loss and a QC loss

#4 seed with a loss and a QC win

Quad City Steamwheelers:

#2 seed with a win and a Massachusetts loss

#3 seed with a win and a SF loss

#4 seed with a loss and SF win

Sioux Falls Storm:

#2 seed with a win and QC loss

#3 seed with a win and a QC win

#4 seed with a loss
